Fresh Install Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolins could be a solution to get the whole system as a desktop replacement for Windows with a variety of free software. Ubuntu 12.04 by default uses Unity as its desktop environment and requires a VGA that supports hardware 3D acceleration. If your hardware does not support 3D acceleration or not like the Unity desktop, you can choose a session and switch to Ubuntu 2D mode.
This time I will do by way of fresh install, for those who already have the  previous version of Ubuntu and want to switch to Ubuntu Precise pangolin can perform the upgrade, type in terminal:
  • update-manager-d
Install Ubuntu Desktop 12.04
First download the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS iso file here and burn it to CD / DVD or can be via a USB stick with UNetbootin assistance.

Upgrade Kubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot to 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin

To upgrade Kubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot to 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin, follow these steps: 
1. Make sure your computer has internet access and a warm coffee.
2. First update Kubuntu 11.10 package with the latest 
3. Restart your computer 
4. When internet-connected automatically there will be a notice to upgrade, and run as well as follow the next step.

Upgrade Kubuntu manually: 
1. Press Alt-F2 and type the muon-updater 
2. Click Install Updates
3. Make sure all updates can be installed.
4. Reboot your computer
5. After the reboot, you should get a notice that the latest version of Kubuntu is available, click the gear icon.
6. Enter your Password.
