Fresh Install Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolins could be a solution to get the whole system as a desktop replacement for Windows with a variety of free software. Ubuntu 12.04 by default uses Unity as its desktop environment and requires a VGA that supports hardware 3D acceleration. If your hardware does not support 3D acceleration or not like the Unity desktop, you can choose a session and switch to Ubuntu 2D mode.
This time I will do by way of fresh install, for those who already have the previous version of Ubuntu and want to switch to Ubuntu Precise pangolin can perform the upgrade, type in terminal:

You will be taken to the next screen, to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS must be available at least 4.5 GB of hard drive storage space, while the internet connection is optional only. If you are connected to the Internet can directly perform the update when the installation is in progress, but it can install software from third-party codec, so that the system is ready and able to run the Flash files, MP3 and other media files. tick the checkbox and click Continue.

The next stage is to partition the hard disk, here there are only two choices of the Erase disk and install Ubuntu and Something else. Be careful with the choice of Erase disk and install Ubuntu because it will erase all existing data and partition the hard drive, make backups of all your data. Something else while options allow you to organize and create its own partition, or even before there were already inside the system.

After installation is complete, you will be asked to reboot the system and click Restart Now.

At the end of the shutdown process, you will be asked to remove the Ubuntu installation CD from the drive, perform and press ENTER.
